Job Description:
Responsible for the overall financial affairs of Oliver Wine Company, Inc. Responsibilities will include financial planning and budgeting, preparation of financial statements, monitoring internal controls, management of audits, supervision of bookkeeping functions and tax preparation. Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. Manages a team of office/administrative staff. The Controller plays a key role in providing insight into company financial performance. The ideal candidate will have a love for small business and an entrepreneurial and inquisitive attitude towards business operations.

Job Responsibilities:
Direct and manage daily accounting and financial functions including financial reporting and analysis.

Develop and manage internal control policies, process and procedures, recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the company.

Oversee preparation of prepaid, accrued expense and fixed asset depreciation schedules, accounts Payable/Receivable, and the completion of monthly reporting, including journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.

Ensure compliance with state and federal budgetary reporting requirements. Oversee use tax and excise tax payments and bond, tax paid and bulk inventory management. Provide payroll oversight by working with Office Manager.

Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual budget and work with department heads to set and meet department budgets. Monitor and analyze monthly/quarterly operation results against budget. Work with Senior Management to facilitate the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.

Work with Senior Management to design a system of dashboard metrics to track company financial goals. Develop and implement methods to evaluate the profitability of the Oliver, Creekbend and Skydog brands of wine, our customer base and our distribution channels.

Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.

Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.

Actively manage and invest excess cash/resources.

Review and approve applications for new credit arrangements and lease agreements.

Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations, product investment decisions and capital resource proposals.

Analyze and manage inventory cost accounting function and make recommendations for improvements.

Work with Human Resources to review Benefits and Insurance Premiums.

Oversee record keeping and prepare necessary documents for yearly reporting for Employee Stock Ownership and 401(k) Plan.

Monitors developments in general accounting practices/systems and makes recommendation for changes to company practices or system upgrades.

Additional tasks as assigned by management.

Job Requirements:
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including GAAP. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets and product-line profitability analysis.

Position requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing a small group of staff.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and five to ten years experience in a similar position required. CPA or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
